I would like to see our Sheriff out on patrols once in a while.......  I'll share a tidbit from this past weekend.

During our Clean-up in Homeland park, Mr. Skipper showed up on his own accord, to assist.  He wasn't wearing a suit & tie, but khaki's and polo shirt.  He willingly jumped right into the muck, dragging out discarded tires and picking up a crack pipe during the route. I found that idea of a Sheriff ( candidate I may add) willing to jump into the simplest of tasks arm in arm with citizens showed me a refreshing sort of law enforcement.  He also spend time talking to others about issues and proposed responses, a walking-session of sorts.

Talk about community involvement!

- from the topic: where is/was the sheriff?

Mr. Greer set it straight by calling them out with the accusations a secret quorum was held.  Sometimes, Larry shows his honest side and sometimes he wants to whoop ass. Last night was the latter.

As I have watched the rusted &  bent wheels of progress plod along for the past decade, I will assure you readers that the appointment of Mr. Cunningham will undoubtedly result in the next layer of discord and animosity among the power players.   I can almost hear the accursed slights due to his race, or his allegience to Mr. Preston, or his lack of Administrator's skills. No matter what "change" this county realizes, there is always those who will not be satisfied that it wasn't THEM getting the job.

JDH, really informative post. It would be nice if the ANMED group and AIM got together and did an article giving info detailing where the various departments are currently located. There have been so many changes in the last few years, I'm sure many people are confused.

Thats a great idea, use the experiences we have had at facilities and relate them to the public

Re: Will minor league baseball return to Anderson in 2009????????

November 13, 2008 by wyatt1sc

Times have changed, and the only thing Anderson really supports is sports in OTHER towns ( clemson, Columbia, Atlanta).  ANderson needs a semi=professional sport like drive-by shootings, tagging made simple or meth lab 101, cuz thats the primary ideal working behind the scenes here.

Re: Water

November 13, 2008 by wyatt1sc

And the forgotten part of this water issue is:  What a lucrative target for eco-terrorism it has become.  By selective targeting, an entire region could be forced to relocate or cease to be.  ( say, that sounds like a terrific movie plot!)

Thing about being an ass-kisser, there's no minty aftertaste to take away from what you're doing.

Careful listening to that show buddy,  there's something being transmitted over the airwaves that.....well you get the picture!

With the economy as it is, and local politics being in it's current downslide & continuing, past mediocre attendance, even with cut-rate tickets and fake managers, means the likelihood of ANY sports venue seeing Anderson as lucrative is about as likely as WAIM promting Obama commercials.

Nohmadron,

I do not write in the name of Anderson County residents or employees. I write for the sake of Anderson County’s best interest, based on how I understand the facts.

I personally believe that a healthy working relationship between the New Council and the Administrator is near impossible. Both parties have no trust or friendly feelings toward each other. Consequently, the potential political and legal battles between the two sides can become very expensive, lengthy, and disruptive. Most important, I do believe that many innocent, well meaning County employees and officials could become caught in the cross-fire. In addition, keep in mind that these battles do not only affect individuals, but also their families.

-art-kaldas

Funny you should mention the fighting among sides.   As Wyatt shmoozes ( or as 1-op sez, kisses butt)with many "insiders" and county employees from across the boards and departments, the feedback about the incoming council is FAR from gracious and friendly.  The given opinion is this:  A power grab has begun, with (won't name him YET) new panel member reaching into the pockets and skirts of those to sway a Ultra-conservative council. One which is guided by money, favoritism and collusion. Seeing as Laurens couped the Titanium manufacturing facility WE were supposed to have because politics played before progress ( does ANYONE know the county motto here???).  With pending money woes and reassessment likely to make up for the lost penny tax money, how many are willing to remain here ( or come here at all)in Anderson once this issue fuels more t.v. time?

Admire how this topic about war for oil has become preferences of boob size and content. Thought sexual references were taboo, as as language and innuendoes.

Re: Reach out on Veterans Day

November 11, 2008 by wyatt1sc

Can I share todays thought=provolking moment?  Thanks, I will anyway.

During an event honoring Vets this morning, we met Ret. Air Force Capt. Leonard Ranch, whom shared some stories about his time in the service of this country. Joining the military on the anniversary of Japanese attacks ( 12/7/42) he wasn't old enough to be a soldier yet, and his father paid off a Opthamologist to "fail him" so he didn't get shipped off to foreign theatres of combat. Unfettered, he still went in as a cadet to learn to fly fighters. Having made it in, he fought directly against the Luffwaffe over Germany, performed protective missions over England and helped train others. Eventually he also fought in the Korean conflict where he earned ACE status as a fighter pilot.  During one of his numerous missions near the 38th parrallel, he was shot down during a straffing mission in a valley enclave by cross fire.  His F-86 hit the ground at nearly 300 MPH and hit straight in.  By grace of God he did not die, but was badly injured.  An ARMY helecoptor rescued him before Korean infantry could capture him.  Brought to an actual MASH hospital, he endured three head surguries ( all without needed anesthesia as it was used by field medics) and demanded return to service. Awarded the Purple Heart for his valor and service, Capt. Ranch was tearful describing his comrades and missions.  He urged the youth to honor this nation with their patriotic duty to serve and protect.

It was a pleasure and honor to speak and meet Capt. Ranch today.

Re: Water

November 11, 2008 by wyatt1sc

This drought, and many similar ones like this troubling states in the West & Midwest for the past decade alone, make me think we as a nation need to re-think our priorities.  Former presidents Hoover & FDR enacted projects which proactively helped this nation( dams, TVA, Nydro-electric plants). Each year, the Mississippi floods over, right?  Why is this fresh water supply not being harnessed, diverted and stored where it is needed? The Hoover dam stores & diverts water to much needed places in Nevada and California.  Large plots of land in the midwest, no longer used for food, could be retasked as a man-made lake to hold vast quantities of water for summer use in farms & fields which no longer get sustainable rains. Enlarging existing lakes from Ohio to the Gulf (like Hartwell, which could be easily be dug out NOW while it is low and reenforce areas which need it) to hold more water once it does rain instead of releasing overages.  Current trends show fewer sustained rains each year ( but there is no global warming folks) and droughts will be more widespread and longer in duration.

Water is a necessary part of life, not oil. Without water, humans will die.  Imagine the costs of supplying water for everyday use. When we run out of water, what options will there be?  Tanker trucks to flush toilets? No more sweet tea at Mama Penns?

Nomadron,

There is a great deal of truth to your statement. However, we need to consider the following points:

•The majority of the New Council have already made public statements which are less than friendly toward Mr. Joey Preston.
•The Administrator is the only one on county payroll with a contract which includes three years severance pay.
•The majority of the Present Council do believe that Mr. Joe Preston has performed well and honorably, and they do have the voters' mandate until December 31, 2008, to make decisions based on their best judgment.
•Allowing Mr. Preston’s contract to end with one year severance pay would be a compromise decision, which would save Anderson County from potential future legal battles, at a great cost to taxpayers.

-art-kaldas

AK,  You have brought some statements which make sense to some of us. Yet there remains strong resentment from the "right-wing" followers of Driver and associated drones which will never let go of the idea of the power which chairing Council represents to them. There is a core of folks which simply cannot forsee any future for anderson unless it involves dissention, anger and mistrust. There is no noticable cooperation or plans for a brighter future, just "get rid of Joey" sophmoric mentality. These council members are supported by a anger mob of simpletons who go with whatever is the popular theme of the day. Same folks who cursed our family in council and courthouse steps, who used swear words to express their feelings about us in lobby with our 11 yr old at our sides. Same folks who said Blue Laws were good business.Same folks who say that added taxes here & there are necessary {for their direct benefit} but show no reasoning or rhyme about those projects for the entirety of the community. Same folks who whine about re-assessment yet don't argue about the added value of their property when they get loans on them. I respond with the following observations which I am not alone in noticing:

Yes, there IS positive support from outgoing council members, businesses and community membership. YES there is already pre-determined hatred from newly elected members which I present as bias and prejudice going forward. YES, I see this as a hinderence for the next council to proceed forward in a positive way when there already is a not-so-hidden adgenda on the panel. YES I forsee many a embattled council meeting in the coming months about this likely payoff to JP, funding of this audit during lean times and dispute over chairmanship. YES I see more bad feelings from businesses, enterprises, individuals and corporations who were courted to come here when council has such animosity in their politics.  YES I see an audit which will uncover more than was wanted to be known. YES there will undoubtedly be legal ramifications to follow such audit. YES there is already several Ethics violations and State-level meetings which will add fuel to the fires of who's really starting unnecessary troubles for this county, and sure to add to the financial woes of Anderson County..And YES I see the onslaught of negative {aka thumbs-down} commentary from the bloggers who simply hate such appraisals of what is plainto see & likely will happen being said in the open.

That was the information posted on MSNBC, which also does NOT include those who simply gave up looking for work, who's benefits ran out, who work part time and are not included in the figures.  I would imagine the numbers are signifigantly higher judging by foreclosures and bankruptcy rates ( also at a historic high)

No need for comparisons dude, we know who the haters are here.

Re: Bargain hunting in America

Oh yeah JD,  BUSH put tons of people to work after 9/11.  Digging out the toppled Trade Center buildings, shuffling off to two wars, packing up all the companies that went to Chin. I mean the list is endless of all the economic contributions BUSH made to America since he took office!  And Wild Bill took over after the first  f**k-up BUSH version1 ran the show.  Something about senators from Texas.....

Don't take WYATT's word for it, His approval poll numbers can vouch for that.

He'll have to wait to afford THAT, at least till he gets his rebate check ( or government bailout)

Re: Bargain hunting in America

November 11, 2008 by wyatt1sc

Yuppers, and I stand by it.  Getting paid for being illegally terminated is different from getting paid by bankrupting a company and still reaping millions while standing with your hand out for a government freebie.  I didn't include council members who padded their own interests or directed property deals ninnie.  I spoke about the actual country's issues about  banks, real estate, stocks and oil profitteers who created and still create the mess we're facing. The thing I weep for is the elderly losing their homes, the joblessness at a 14 year high and growing by the week, the likelihood of massive corporate bankruptcies which the TAXPAYERS will be saddled with.

Joey is another issue I'll let you giggle about in your own little brain, Bill.

Yeah, I did have my following from ST, all six of 'em!   Guess they teamed up with Holder as he has so much free time now after LOSING his bogus election campaign.  That would explain the numbers...

Re: Bargain hunting in America

Those who are "against" Obama have yet to see if he'll use Executive priveledge and enact laws to save the citizens and this nation, who are the real victims of these crimes. The entire nation has become victim to about a few hundred individuals who , in essence, collapsed the US economy.  Talk about terrorism.

Re: Ads that make you stop and think

Statistics and facts are interchangable things OPie. And being an American- owned company for 150 years and selling out to Dutch for $$$$  shows what the true fabric of America is:  Greed at any costs. Think the beer will get cheaper now Opie?  Not likely.  Wyatt thinks idiots who insult me are simply venting their inner fear that someone else is right. Thing about having only one opinion available to you is....maybe it aint the RIGHT opinion.   After all, you're the one deluded with Barack Obama and Robin Hoodlum.   Maybe when your next stimulus "check" comes, you'll simply give it back, eh?  I suggest buying a clue instead.

Wyatt, I think this will be the last one you,and I will see, we don`t have the funds to finance another one, unless China is willing to take an I.O.U. There is a Veterans Day ceremony tomorrow morning in downtown Iva, to honor our troops, I plan to be there do anyone of you flag wavers plan to see me there? Don`t just talk the talk, walk the walk.

Nah, there will be ANOTHER Republican in office again, and the war machine wheels will roll once more.

Besides, Japan owns more of America than China, or didn't you read the Sunday PARADE magazine article???

Hate is a good thing in it's own way.  It's good to hate those who raped the public by stealing their 401(k) funds. It's good to hate those who falsely inflated the housing market values in order to pad their profits also raped from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. It's good to hate those CEO's, COO's and Directors who get golden parachutes while workers with 30 years get pinkslips and lose their homes.  It's good to hate conglomerates who make it impossible for elderly to afford their drugs while making exhorbitant profits.  It's good to hate those who are getting government bailouts/ handouts of MY hard-paid moneys on top of the extorted profits they already got while juggling numbers and lying to stock-holders for years.  Its good to hate greed, because the Bible tells me so.

I'll look forward to my checkMoney mouth
