Shhh. Listen closely! That steady sucking sound you hear is Bowen's political future vortexing right down the proverbial drain. This guy's election was a fluke and he will without a doubt be a one hit wonder. Dobbins is polling strong and will throttle Bowen on November 4th. Throw party out the window on this one. Dobbins is old line Anderson and carpetbagger Bowen's undistinguished two years in Columbia will earn him the coveted position of former legislator come January.

Re: Bad News for the struggling Kevin Bryant for Senate Campaign

October 1, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Does anyone has irrefutable evidence that Bryant is not gay? A wife and kids is a time-tested cover for gay politicians. Is what Bryant or Meadors do in their own bedroom ANYBODY's business? Stick to the issues folks. This ain't an audition for a porno flick - it's an election to the SC Senate.

How much is $700 Billion Anyway?

September 30, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

$700,000,000,000 is 700,000 million dollar bills or 7 billion hundred dollar bills or 35 billion twenties. Beyond comprehension of most Americans and most certainly exceeding the cognitive quantitative abilities of some 220 something members of the lower house of Congress. Simple math indicates that each of the 114,384,000 U.S. households would be on the hook for $6,120, and each of the estimated 305,298,628 Americans would owe $2,300. Like anybody who's been robbed, we need to just absorb our losses and take precautions to make sure it doesn't happen again. What else can we do? Organize a posse? Perhaps. But most of us need the capital freed up so that we may continue mind our shops while the posse chases the Wall Street bandits across the badlands. Plain, Simple, Common Sense. Sorry Captain Leo, but no other words would do.

Re: Enough Failed Republican Policies - Fire the Bums

No doubt we have great hard working medical professionals out there who earn their money. Vote for Dr. Marshall Meadors by the way. But when we punish hard working entrepreneurs with a minimum $500 per month non-corporate health insurance premium, we discourage the very free enterprise that Republicans claim to be the flag bearer for.

Enough Failed Republican Policies - Fire the Bums

September 18, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Folks it's time to vote Democrat this fall. From the top of the ticket all the way down. Read the paper today and you'll see all the news is bad. The Economy sucks (AIG and Stock markets plunge). The WAR sucks (Yemem attack). The Environment sucks. And yes, our health care still system sucks. For SC, might as well throw in Education. The Republicans told us they had the answers in 2000, and again in 2004. Time to call BS. If you enjoy the misery, re-elect the REPUBLICAN establishment that got us to this point over the past 8 years. If you think we can do better, join me in voting for OBAMA/BIDEN (President) and Dr. MARSHALL MEADORS (State Senate) Republicans have presided over our recent demise and current misery. They DO NOT deserve to be re-elected. Let's put our nation and our state back on solid footing before it is too late. It's morning in America (and SC) folks.

Debate Tonight - Meadors verses Bryant

September 11, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Everyone should attend the big debate tonight at the Anderson County Library. This is a VERY important race locally. Both candidates need to be held to honest intellectual discourse about real issues such as jobs, health care, public education and the environment. Moreover, Kevin Bryant (as the incumbent) needs explain why he deserves to be re-elected amidst a four year spiral that has left far too many Andersonians not as well off as they were before he was elected. It is important that voters attend the meeting and keep the candidates focused on the issues that matter and not allow them sidestep the tough questions and wrap themselves in the safety blanket of such trite rhetorical statements such as "I'm against guvment", "I'm against abortion", "I'm conservative", "I'm for open governemt" or my favorite "I'm for the people". Let's go ahead and chalk up these points in the column of both candidates. That said, here are some relevant question that both candidates should have to answer:

1. What will you do to get the East-West Connector Built?

2. What will you do to put unemployed/underemployed SC people back to work?

3. How can we stabilize public school funding in light of Act 388?

4. People fuss about condition of roads. And people have blamed the County. Howevever, most of the complaints are actually about the more heavily traveled STATE maintained roads. What are YOU gonna do about STATE road funding?

5. Growth is quickly urbanizing our pristine state. What will YOU do to strenghten planning laws to prevent continued degradation of the environment?

6. Free clinics and medicaid are overburdened in this sorry economy. What will YOU do to shore up the system to ensure essential health care for SC people?

Folks show up and pay attention. Don't let the real issues get lost among the typical mindless banter about "conservatism" and who is the most conservative. That's stupid and it certainly hasn't improved our lives in the past four years.

Re: VEEP - a candidate with SUBSTANCE!

August 29, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

By the way, Mark Sanford was my choice for McCain's running mating. God knows Washington needs him more than we do. Maybe he'd have taken Kevin Bryant with him. Either that or find way to extract Kevin head from his......uh, you know. Probably easier just the take him.

Re: VEEP - a candidate with SUBSTANCE!

August 29, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Yep Andrew. One of these items is not like the others: 3 US Senators; 1 Alaskan governor. They should have just rounded it out by picking another Senator - Elizabeth Dole of NC or Kay Bailey Hutchison of TX would come to mind. Then 4 percent of the sitting US Senate would be running for President instead running the country (as we elected them to do) And Alaska only has 660,000 residents. There are more people than that in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties.

Re: VEEP - a candidate with SUBSTANCE!

August 29, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

JD, my "Plain and Tall" stems from the fact that my dyslexic brain wants to read "Palin" as "Plain". And with "Sarah" already in the mix, it wasn't a giant leap from there. My apologies to women everywhere. Females are far and away my favorite gender. My mother is one, as are my daughters and my GF.

Re: VEEP - a candidate with SUBSTANCE!

August 29, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

The Republicans are not going to touch Barack Hussein Obama. Sarah Plain and Tall may ad some youth and vigor the Father Time's campaign, but I suspect the Republicans have just punted the ball in hopes of getting it back with better field position in 2012.

Re: VEEP - a candidate with SUBSTANCE!

August 29, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Geraldine Ferraro comes to mind. Good stategy though. Father time definitely needs some youth and vibrance in the camp, even if nobody's ever heard of her. In fact, given the overall disgust with the Republicans, anonymity is probably her best asset. Hopefully, she'll be more help to him than Ferraro was to poor hapless Walter Mondale. They're going to need it against the Obama-Biden juggernaut.

Re: Is Joey Cashing OUT????

August 28, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Hey Queen, these rumors and innuendo will never die. One of the hardest things to do in this world is to publicly admit when you are wrong. And McDougalds and Sullivan-King have a lot of work to do before these knuckleheads stop spewing their BS about Joey Preston and the legacy of his time here. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna head over to the Longbranch Saloon and tell Miss Kitty what a fraud her friend marshalldillion08 is. He sounds more like some of those brokeback cowboys that come to the County Council meetings than everybody's hero from Gunsmoke. Goodaye ma'am.

When did you ask me some questions JD?

Re: Is Joey Cashing OUT????

August 27, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

That's the point dude. The government is open. The TOGA political platform was the result of a myth that Cindy could not get the information they were asking for. The voters bought it, so Cindy and Bob and the gang better manufacture some product. They've got a huge bill of goods on back order. It'll be fun to watch.

Re: Is Joey Cashing OUT????

August 27, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Well if you ask me, it would be a whole lot cheaper to buy Cindy out. She'd probably resign for about half of what it would take to buy Joey out. She's all about the money. Walgreens land deal? Beaverdamgate? Campaign money for lawyers fees?

Re: check this out

August 26, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Nope! Kevin needs to go. Marshall Meadors election to the State Senate will send a message to the rest of the legislative delegation that public education MATTERS, environment MATTERS, health care MATTERS and out-of-state special interests DOES NOT MATTER.

Re: County Agency Performance?

August 25, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Don't be so melodramatic Spring. I understand that there have been more than 10,000 single family houses built and inspected in Anderson County during the past decade. If you had a forensic construction engineer analyze each and every one under a microscope, he could probably note something wrong on every last one of them. A house has many components and a rountine inspection by a human inspector might just miss some caulking errors or an errant nail every once in a while. However, the processes employed by the Anderson County Building and Codes Department are sound, thus there is a reasonable expectation that all inspected dwellings are code compliant. Moreover, all the staff is certified and experienced. In addition to having two state certified building officials among top management, the Building Codes Director and the Assistant Director are graduates of Clemson's structural engineering program. You're barking up the wrong tree, plain and simple.

Re: Which Anderson County employees will be terminated in 2009?

August 24, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Yes, Preston's kids have suffered great humiliation from all the unproven junk that's been printed and broadcast about him. Waldrep's kids are grown and one is very active (at the center of) his campaign. Don't know about Stan's progeny. And I am sure that Cindy's 16ish year old daughter has suffered from the mean-spirited banter about her mother. At one point somebody said she was contemplating moving to live with grandparents in another town. The kids of our public servants shouldn't be treated that way by our community. And you can't really contol gossip. It's human nature. However, the media should resist the urge to print every unsubstantiated nugget of personal gossip that one's political enemies whisper to them.

The hyenas are all the operatives who take what the few villains say as the truth and mindlessly sing along in chorus without trying to sort out fact from fiction.

Re: Which Anderson County employees will be terminated in 2009?

August 24, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

There are many other children is this community who are harmed by the malicious remarks made about their county employee parents on this blog, on the WAIM radio station and in the Anderson Independent-Mail. Even if they don't see it first hand, other kids, their teachers and their neighbors certainly see it and reflect it to them. No kid deserves to have absurd accusations recklessly thrown about regarding their parents and certainly they shouldn't have to read speculation by mean people that their mother or father will lose their jobs. How cruel is that?

Re: County Agency Performance?

August 24, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

Yep. Liz Carey, Stanton Welch, Andy Parody and Anna Mitchell have certainly been very cautious in their coverage of the county of late. Fair and balanced all the way. Never thought I'd miss Ed Sealover and Wayne Mitchell. Insomuch as they were a pain in the ass, the did their due dilligence. And wow, did the county lose out when the Greenville News (Cindy Landrum and Anna Simon) quit covering the local beat. Atleast they kept the locals honest. I suspect the County routinely deals with such frivolous claims. There apparently is a process for dealing with such matters, and they would be foolish to get themselves sucked into such sensationalized nonsense by haphazardly jumping into the people's public opinion court with Judge Judy or Judge Wapner. Let the process run its course and then report the facts. The FACTS at this point my dear are the you (Jane Doe) along with Springs Sprung, Dunebuggy, Plumbob and let's not forget Prevail are so eager to throw the county under the bus at every turn that nothing you say can be taken seriously. Like Cindy and Bob, you've cried wolf so often and for so long that everything that comes out of your mouths should be taken with a grain of salt. For as sure as the sun will rise in the morning, the lot of you will take an oppositional stance on anything that emanates from County administration. Your irreverant comments and your childish nicknames (flip flop Ron and Bloodsucker to name a few) rob you of absolutely any legitimacy. You are political hooligans.

[Scar:]
Just listen to teacher
I know it sounds sordid
But you'll be rewarded
When at last I am given my dues
And injustice deliciously squared
Be prepared!
[Spoken]
[Banzai:] Yeah, Be prepared.
Yeah-heh... we'll be prepared, heh.
...For what?
[Scar:] For the death of the king.
[Banzai:] Why? Is he sick?
[Scar:] No, fool-- we're going to kill him. And Simba too.
[Shenzi:] Great idea! Who needs a king?
[Shenzi (and then Banzai):]
No king! No king! la--la-la--la-laa-laa!
[Scar:] Idiots! There will be a king!
[Banzai:] Hey, but you said, uh...
[Scar:] I will be king! ...Stick with me, and
you'll never go hungry again!

Re: County Agency Performance?

Spring, your derogatory references to the honorable Ron Wilson, County Council District #6 representative, tell me all I need to know about your view of the world. You already already spent whatver credibility you ever had about this or any other issue on your past rants about JP, the budget, the 800 Megahertz system, etc. This is just your latest baseless attack against the county. As for state legislation, go speak with YOUR state senator Kevin Bryant. Senator Bryant owns any deficiency we have with regard to state legislation on homebuilders and the inspection process. Has he introduced any legislation to address these severe limitations you've raised? If you can ever extract Kevin's head from Mark Sanford's a55, perhaps you can whisper your concerns about the need for more state GUVMENT regulation of home builders into his ear. Yep, I'll be looking to hear the Senator's proposals on more GUVMENT regulations to protect the TAXPAYER from the homebuilder VERY SOON. You're a great American Spring.

Re: County Agency Performance?

August 22, 2008 by white-plains-drifter

In fairness to the state or local homebuilders associations (and the county for that matter), I don't think anybody condones shoddy building practices. Re: October 29th (anniversary of Black Monday) - Time will tell. Have a superb weekend!
