I am glad I will not be in Times Square tonight. Twenty degrees with 60 MPH wind and millions of people. Definitely not my cup of tea.
Everyone be careful out there tonight so you can have a Happy New Year!

Christmas in Germany with Christmas Markets and family was wonderful but I am happy to be home here in Anderson.
My wishes for all of you for the New Year is Peace, Tranquillity and Love (what else would a "liberal" say) and a cease fire at the moderators here on the blog. A month? A week?, Aw hecky darn, 24 hours?

Re: Graham slams Bush on auto bailout funds
December 21, 2008 by petunia1
JD,
I would hazzard a guess that you personally will be better off in four years, Will you admit that the Democratic administration was the reason? I doubt it.
At least they will be "smarter than a fifth grader" which "W" was not. I do not hold him totally responsible on his own. he had lots of help with the people he chose to guide him and they let him down.
Re: Search for "the real problem" with Anderson County must be completed.
December 18, 2008 by petunia1
By the time a special audit is approved, paid for, and full report received it will not be of any benefit. Wasted taxpayer money!
I would suggest that if the incoming council has specific concerns, they request special attention to these matters on the annual audit. There may be an additional cost but less than ordering a new audit on past indiscretions. This would be more pertinent to the improvement of the County spending and future budgeting than to spend $$$$$ to discover wrong doings of the past.
Re: should the new council worry about joey preston
December 17, 2008 by petunia1
Seems to me that the new council needs to get to the business at hand. They should be moving Anderson County forward in a fiscally responsible way. Wasting time and money to salve egos and in "one upmanship" and hate messages does not "fit the bill"
I have hopes that the Anderson County Council that will be seated in January will set an example of how hardworking, efficient, co operative council members can work togehther for the betterment of all Anderson County residents.
That would insure a Happy New year to one and all!

JD, I appreciate your reply and agree with it for the most part. It has been painful to read the discussions on moderation. I am grateful that those discussions will be taken to e-mail in the future. I thought that you removed one of my posts that identified a menber that would like to remain anonymous. I may have been mistaken as I am once again "across the pond" and the interenet is sometimes to blame. I will try to obey the "New Rules".
Prevail, Once again you took out of context what JD stated. I believe that I can state for many here that your position of speaking "for the majority of citizens" is not based on statistics.
Re: A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS MESSAGE TO THE ANDERSON CITY COUNCIL, MAYOR AND MANAGER
December 12, 2008 by petunia1
Pappy,
Once again you suckered me in to reading another diatribe on your water problem with the City. I have offered my $50 deposit that they have now held illegally for six years plus the interest which they have collected on it to start a fund of all those interested in confronting the City of Anderson on this problem. How much more can I do?
Re: The Famer's Market Holiday Market
December 11, 2008 by petunia1
It took me three years to finally get to the Greek Festival. Seems I am always in Germany when something new and exciting happens at the Farmer's Market. Take it from me the Christmas Markets here are really fun. I am trying to take in as many as possible. Don't miss this chance to enjoy this fine tradition in Anderson. Be sure and try the Gluhwein. Keep taking sips it will taste better with each swallow. If nothing else it keeps your hands warm.
Support this fine effort!
Re: A study of contrasts: Anderson City Council Meetings Vs. Anderson County Circus
December 9, 2008 by petunia1
It has been some time since I have attended either of the two council meetings. I thought you had to sign up at County Council meetings to speak. Is there not a limit on amount of time allowed? Should the rule on outbursts not be settled by removing a few of them from the meeting?
I have a concern that I took to the City Council Meeting of the former administration. I was given time to state my concerns and was treated very politely by all except the former Mayor.
There are rules of order that a proper chairman should be aware of and use to control the meetings.
What was the subject that brought up such an emotional response?
Re: Bus Trip
December 6, 2008 by petunia1
I've been to a bunch of county council meetings and I don't hear much hatred. All I hear is desperation with a county government that refuses to follow the law or listen to the will of the people.
If there is any hatred, the Fab Five and Preston have brought it on themselves.-lee-cole
Lee,
Are you sure you were at an Anderson Country Council Meeting? I have attended two meetings (first and last) and if memory serves me right you were there, At that meeting I was shocked to hear a preacher stand up and speak in a hateful manner and an old guy removed by the Park police. I have not been back but may consider it now that the metal detector is up and running. It may not detect some objects (small knives and lighters) but definitely will detect guns.
No one deserves hatred, especially from supposed Christians. Disagreements can be settled in a civil manner.

ART,
Maybe the "residents" are sick and tired of McAbee and Thompson acting like fools? If it weren't for a mob mentaility back in the ate l1700's, we would be singing "God Save the Queen", and talking with a bloody funny accent.
These folks have a right. Thompson and McAbee are not men enough to step up and listen to their concerns. Right or wrong, their concerns need to be heard and addressed.
Cheerio!-willieh
Does this not consist of personal attacks on those council persons by Mr h ? I thought we were no longer allowed to personally attack anyone.
Re: What an EMBARRASSMENT

Mrs Floyd will be on the County Council to represent her constituents for as long as she chooses and we will all be there to support her.

Glad to see you back, Buster. The amount of credible rhetoric has been sadly lacking.
Re: Code name "Teddy Bear"?!?
December 3, 2008 by petunia1
so now yer saying that Rick Driver and Crowd control over 60% of the county voters? What a bunch of crap.People are tired of higher taxes with little or no return on the investment. Infrastructure should have been taken care of incrementally. But no. We have to have the Kroger building, we have to have trips all over the country for Economic Development that brings no jobs. We have to have the old stitchery building, and new artsy fartsy buildings and oh yeah, the tourist magnet MUSEUM!Fix our roads and bridges with the money we have in the general fund and stop with the fluff.-willieh
Willey Hilley,
I just wish one time that you knew what you were talking about. Spouting generalizations gleend from listening every day to the drivil on that Radio Show do not enhance your credibility.
Re: County Agency Performance?

Prevail,
Is that the "fool's hill" that my grand mother often spoke of? Maybe coming down the other side will bring you where most open mined, positive, moderates like to be. We take a little from the right, very conservative fiscally, and a little from the left, practice the "Golden Rule" by giving a hand up not a hand out.
Re: Political Funnies & Satire
November 23, 2008 by petunia1
JD,
How can you say, with a straight face, that Karl Rove never presented lies as facts? Guess you were one of the 45% that after hearing a lie many times believed it to be the truth. I have a hard time believing that.

Re: Political Funnies & Satire
November 22, 2008 by petunia1
Republikin, this whole Palin-phobia thing just amazes me. The left is terrified that she's going to run for national office again, so they have to destroy her any way they can. Pitiful, I tell ya, pitiful. If they're so scared of one woman from Alaska, how can they be expected to protect us from REAL threats in the future?
By the way, the recurring joke that she said she can "... see Russia from my house" is a good example. She never said that. Tina Fey said that on Saturday Night Live, but no lie is too outrageous for the lefties to use in their ongoing politics of personal destruction, I guess.
I love politics, but I do with at the national level - and at the local level - those who play would, at the very least, occasionally put some element of truth to their posts.
That's my idea of a "Fairness Doctrine." I don't care which side you're on or what you say, as long as it is arguably true and not an outright lie or a total distortion of the truth.-jdtippett
JD, Are you telling me that Lee Atwater and Karl Rove politics are dead. If so, things are "changing" already.

Thank you Art and Queen,
I was not sure what I had heard was correct.
We can only hope for more peaceful coexistence and pulling together for the best for Anderson County.

If you think what we have had for the past 8 years was fun then you will be in for a even greater surprise soon. Think January 21st.

Art,
Did you go to the County Council meeting tonight? Is what I heard correct? Is JRP really leaving?
Is it true they have already hired someone to take his place?
Re: "Democratic Principles on Line"

JD,
Did you read the article or were you just responding with your usual "my way or the highway" mentality?
The wolves are out of power on January 20th and sheep have hopefully found a shepherd to protect them from the wolves in the future.

"Democratic Principles on Line"
November 16, 2008 by petunia1
This topic is explored by Mark Hopkins under the "My Southern perspective" subject in AIM today. I think more people need to "get on board" with his way of thinking. Once again, sorry, I can not provide a link.
Why not? I am just asking?
Re: Catholics: No communion for Obama supporters
November 16, 2008 by petunia1
Today in AIM an article in the "On My Mind" section Dr. Bill Griffith described the point I tried to get across on the subject of religion. The title was "Blinded by the Light". Probably available on their website for those of you that do not take the newspaper. Sorry I can't provide a link.
Re: Catholics: No communion for Obama supporters
November 14, 2008 by petunia1
I certainly don't want a theocracy, Petunia, but I also don't want to live in under atheistic government where all mention of God is outlawed and those who do believe aren't allowed to participate without being punished.
There is a happy medium here. We have managed to survive just fine with the concept of religious freedom intact for more than two centuries now. Our laws and our Constitution currently protect us from being persecuted or prosecuted for having strong religious beliefs, having no religious beliefs, and everything in between.
Why are some so determined to change that? Do we need a new slogan? How's this:
Change: We can't believe.
Yeah, I didn't think so.-jdtippett
I believe that we are saying the same thing with your sentence that states: "Our laws and our Constitution currently protect us from being persecuted or prosecuted for having strong religious beliefs, having no beliefs, and everything in between". That is how it should be but that does suffice for some. Many feel they are here to share their beliefs and their commitment to a particular form of religion. I have no problem with that. There are many lost souls that will find comfort in that. Unfortunately their are many religious zealots that preach "hellfire and damnation" to anyone who does not adhere to their doctrine and take advantage of those that have a need for absolution.
In case there is any doubt, I am not an atheist. I believe strongly in the "Golden Rule". I try to practice it every day. Not being perfect some days I fail but I try to do better the next day. I am sorry, that is the best I can offer.
Atheists are not taking over the United States and the sky is not falling, however there is global warming whether we are to blame or it is a natural phenomena. Who would have thought that we would have less than a year of water in Lake Hartwell.
Re: Catholics: No communion for Obama supporters
November 14, 2008 by petunia1
Do any of you believe that a Theocracy is where we want this country to go if the Republic Democracy that we now have is obsolete?
Re: Catholics: No communion for Obama supporters
November 14, 2008 by petunia1
NO!
Only those the "interfere with the political process" to the extent that they execute "power" over their members.
Re: Catholics: No communion for Obama supporters
November 14, 2008 by petunia1
I want to thank String for providing us with such good research.
I read all the articles. I am concerned with any church that tries to interfere with the political process. I believe strongly in separation of Church and State, to the point of said individual churches losing their tax free status when appropriate.
JD, I know the that it was meant to protect the practice of religion not protect the political process. Just as the right to bear arms was for the forming of a militia to protect this country from invasion not your personal property.
One of the articles states that if a Catholic votes for a candidate for reasons other than those concerning abortion and euthanasia it is not a "sin" and may receive communion. This seems to be a less controlling and fair minded option.
Everyone has the right to practice the religion of their choice regardless of tenets of that particular religion. The law of the land must decide if certain of these are illegal and punishable by the judicial system.

Yes, former cop, I can take a joke. I certainly left myself open for that one. Whoever had the bright idea to set that kind of business up in Clemson is not too smart.

Do not worry JD. We will not allow this blog to become a patriarchy. We can probably make it on $60 a month after charging for all the services we preform but you "ain't gonna" like it.
