Obama's refusal to place his hand over his heart during the national anthem, however, is a clear violation of the flag protocols, and aninsulting display of nonchalance on his part. Dunebuggy, you know very well I've questioned the guessing games regarding your real identity in the past. Try to be accurate for a change, okay?

In this particular case, I really don't care who's who. All I see is a vindictive bunch of winners who are hellbent on not just defeating the opposition (which they've already done) but DESTROYING anyone who was involved with the previous regime.

If that's what the voters and taxpayers of Anderson County have to look forward to over the next two years, I'll predict -again - that your victory will be short-lived. Even voters who agree with you balk at the viciousness of some of these attacks. Really. Ask Elizabeth Dole up in N.C. if she'd like to take back that "godless" attack on Kay Hagen.

-jdtippett

Sorry, JD. I have beengone awhile andhad forgotten just how shiny your armor is. I also forgot you are one of the moderators on this site now. Yes, that confusion does need to be cleared up. It would be nice to know when I'm just being talked down to or officially scolded. In fact, I would really appreciate it if you could list the other moderators. i really don't know who they are.
I have been off this site since shortly after Nick took it on himself to ban certain posters. I would have stayed off but someone contacted me this morning to tell me that Amy was throwing my name around,so I checked in to see what lies she was telling this time. I've known her for three years now, and I have yet to catch her in the truth. In the meantime, perhaps you could remind me of one vicious thing I've posted today? Just one.I presume this post won't qualify, but we'll see.

Dunebuggy, I think we have to give him a chance, we cannot turn into the same kind of crazies that the Bush Bashers became. I mean since day one those people tried to undermine Bush and it devided this country, and did a tremendous amount of damage to America's image across the world. So lets give the guy a break and see what happens. I mean we get to vote in 4 years and give our thumbs up of down. If it gets to bad we have other options.

-noeline

Well, we really don't have any choice but to give him a chance, noeline. But I remain wary of this guy and the free pass he was given by the mainstream media. I go by instincts a good bit and my instincts about this guy and the concerted effort to coronate him make the hair stand up on the back of my neck.I think he's going to be exactly the radical he appears to be.

Do any of you guys think maybe you know who someone is but are totally wrong and just don't want to admit it. I have no idea who you think Republikin is but I think you might be wrong in your assumption. It just doesn't seem like whoever republikin is, works for the county.

-noeline

You're right, noeline. She doesn't work for the county. Technically, neither does "her man Bill". But both profit from their relationship with each other and with the county. So your point is well taken, but means nothing.

Re: Waldrep-Wilson-Preston Lawsuit

I agree with V-O-R on this one. What I see going on here is an elaborate game, and I don't wanna play. Somebody who may or may not be on either side's roster keeps getting her name called.

-jdtippett

So don't play. I for one am very confident of her identity, although that has never been a problem on this forum before. Everyone assumes they know my identity, and that doesn't bother any of you. so why should this?

Re: Redemption is Complete

November 6, 2008 by dunebuggy

P.S. Noeline,
If Obama had given any sign that he even knows where the political middle is, much less an ability to govern from it, he would have lost the election because the Dems would have left him twisting in the wind. They are not interested in moderation.

Re: Redemption is Complete

November 6, 2008 by dunebuggy

I think that if Mr. Obama governs from the middle we will have him for two terms. If on the other hand he governs with the left wingers like Pelosi he will be in for only one term. BO has a choice where he will either follow his promise to govern all the people fairly and from the middle, or he will prove himself to be another carter. Just a thought now that Mr. Obama has been elected can we now get rid of hypenated American labels. Can we all just be Americans now?

-noeline

Noeline,it would be nice if such labels could be dropped, but there is still money to be made from divisiveness, and those still eager to make it.

If you are going to write a story that pertains to Contract Law, one would think the author's "expert source" would be an expert in Contract Law, since you are using said source to provide credibility. Here's a hint: Talk to a lawyer that actually specializes in Contract Law. Would you be such a lawyer, stupid? Strange to see the adjective stupid follow the noun lawyer, isn't it?

Re: Capital Projects Sales Tax - Redux

Just curious... Where did the Council's PAVING ACCOUNT MONEY go? Did it go for paving (a part of infrastructure)? Yes, I do think tax dollars from any source should be used for infrastructure when legal and possible!

-non-sequitur

non-seq
County paving funds are delegated by individual council members. They are used to address serious needs in the district and also, to varying degrees.to curry favor and win votes. But if they were five fold what they are and always used otthe best effect, without political consideration, they wouldn't even keep up with the maintenance paving that needs to be done each year. I've heard all the arguments about how the percentage spent on paving has remained flat over the last ten years, and that's largely accurate. But the point is what is the point? That factoid is a sign of mismanagement - thatis conceded. But it has nothing whatever to do with getting back on track withthe current and future infrastructure needs. To address the infrastructure needs in Anderson County through property tax revenues, instead of a sales tax, would easily quadruple property taxes and never generate enough revenue to meet the need. It simply can't be done. The burden on property owners would be immense. But, what the heck, who cares about roads as long as a fifty cent candy bar doesn't cost fifty one cent.

Give the guy a break Dune! I even gave GWB a break. He certainly proved my point that he wasn't up to the job. Still can't believe he won the second four years. Guess you will have to put up with our choice for the next eight. [image]

-petunia1

Petunia, he'll have to earn any break he gets. I say this as plainly and honestly as I can. For the first time in my life, I truly doubt whether a president or president elect has the best interests of this nation at heart. And I will take considerable convincing otherwise. I think anyelective process that require the expenditure of a billion dollars to seek office is screwed beyond repair, and I think the media was complicit in their desire to see Obama elected. When I hear people who still believe that anyone can be president in this country, or that our elections can't be bought,it makes milk shoot out of my nose.
I think Obama is a deeply flawed person and a deeply flawed candidate,so excuse me if I keep my guard up for a while. We would all do well to do so.Having said that, I hope I'm wrong. I can easily live with the normal swings of the political pendulum and I can certainly understand the urge to distance this country from the poor performance of the Bush administration. Those aren't the concerns I speak of.I had many policy issues with McCain as well, but I never doubted his intentions and his loyalty to this nation.
I truly doubt Obama's heart, and that doubt will be hard to remove.

Re: Redemption is Complete

November 6, 2008 by dunebuggy

Say what you want about Obama but he is smart. He knows to have that second term he will have to stay in the middle ground of politics. So he will be a semi-conservative liberal.<g> That is pretty much where the rest of the voters are. The fringe, ultra-liberal and extreme right wingers just don't get they are too far out there for the mainstream population. If in two years Obama has gone too far, the elections will slide toward the right to slow the "liberal" activiy. I know how unsettling it might be to hear Obama is getting security briefings but the job is his and he better start understanding what he got into. Thank God for Colin Powell. With no Rumsfeld to hinder his skills we can possibly have a better outcome. At least there won't be that quick withdrawal Obama first suggested. Powell's influence was heard earlier than I realized. That should have been obvious when he began to make sense about the war and foreign policy. It's nice to have Powell back where he can safeguard our country. He is a cautious wise man.

-1-opinion

Yeah, too bad he's so hen pecked his wife wouldn't let him run for president. I would have voted for him.

Re: Redemption is Complete

November 6, 2008 by dunebuggy

Well, the region continues to evolve and time will tell what happens! The better half has been quite disgusted with the Anderson Indep-Mail for its increasing decrease in size. We have noticed that the Anderson Journal seems bigger than the AIM at times. I hate to see the local paper not be a daily edition. I have gotten rather accustomed to it after 50+ years of the Anderson newspaper each morning.

-the-queen

I agree, Queen. It's a shame to see thelocal daily struggling so, even though newspapers everywhere are feeling the impact of the web and its electronic offspring. But in all honesty, AIM has brought this on themselves by toadying up to the county administration in exchange for all that advertising revenue. Same with AnMed.
On top of that, one of their own employees has reportedly filed a lawsuit against them for fudging their circulation numbers, which are the basis for advertising rates, by the way. Those numbers are audited (what a concept!) each yearby the appropriate professional organization, and certified. Lying about them is damn serious business in the newspaper world.
Another employee has filed suit against Butch for kidnapping because he allegedly wouldn't release her from his office when she demanded to leave. Don't take my word for it folks. Go to the courthouse and check for yourselves.
And the tri-weekly wouldn't be AIM, Queen. The talk I'm hearing is about a whole new player.

Re: Waldrep-Wilson-Preston Lawsuit

You may be right. Even a blind ...... ? If that happens, where does that leave Anderson County? Getting three of four voted out is only have the game. What do you do now? You actually have to do something. It'll be fun to watch.

-republikin

You might find the view a bit different from the outside, Amy. Personally, I cannot wait to watch Gracie and Ron try to function as allies when that 5-2 hammer starts falling on them for a change. Mr. SCV and Ms. Don't you call me out! Omigod, it's gonna be great!!!

Hey DumbBuddy: I guess you just woke up. Another of Stan's many personalities. For the one-thousand't time. I'm not Amy, I have no idea who she is. Apparently she gets under your thin skin. Maybe she is right?

-republikin

Talk about getting under someone's skin. Jeez, Amy, settle down. Anyone who wants to back track and cross reference your posts as Consituent and Republikin can make up their own mind about who you are. But whover you are, you are one bipolar sonuvagun. Stay on the meds, that's all I can say.Especially when you're on the school grounds, if you get my drift.

Re: Redemption is Complete

Folks, sorry to change topics. But I just heard on the morning news that Barack Obama starts getting daily security briefings today. Doesn't that just warm your freaking heart? Bill Ayers for SecDef!!To those of you with loved ones serving overseas, mythoughts, my prayers, and my condolences.

Re: Waldrep-Wilson-Preston Lawsuit

November 6, 2008 by dunebuggy

You folks take it easy on Amy. She's under a lot of pressure. She has about six weeks left to get all she can from the trough. Too bad she and Billy Mac can't throw together one more economic development deal, make a nice lick on a real estate commission, and close another road. But, those kinds of opportunities don't come along every day - unless you're MArshall Carithers,of course.
Amy, what you gonna do, now that Council's through with you?

Apologies to the Pure Prairie League

Good point, and exactly what thepersonnel committee is doing. The problem seesm to be that this attorney really is Bright. The committee seems to behaving a very tough time coming to grips with whatever Mr. Bright is telling them. Apparently, it isn't supportive of a buyout, or we wouldn't keep seeing these extended executive sessions. Obviously, the boys aren't hearing what they want to hear, which is, "give him the money, it'll be okay". What they are probably hearing is more along the lines of "Why the hell would you buy him out when you can release himin three months and save 8 or 9 hundred grand?"

Re: Redemption is Complete

You know, sometimes giving everyone a fresh start would be a good option. Beating the old issues is a waste of time. You are not going to get rid of Stan Welch - he makes $$$$ for the Journal, and David Meade does have common sense as a businessman. Give it a rest, Repub. The new mayor has his work cut out for him.

Phil Clardy is a good man who did his best with a difficult situation. I am glad I was not in his shoes. Just as I am glad I am not in the shoes of President-Elect Obama in these very difficult times.

-the-queen

I don't know Queen. I'm hearing some very interesting stuff about Welch's possible future in journalism. An unconfirmed rumor is that with AIM's continuing demise, a bi-weekly or tri-weekly paper might be in the offing. If it is, rumor has it that Welch's name would be high up on the masthead. I also know for a fact that he was asked by someone at the Independent (name withheld) to consider the managing editor's job.So, maybe the Williamston Journal will be rid of him. They won't like it, but it could happen.

Re: Capital Projects Sales Tax - Redux

String, there is a list of approximately 120 projects on the current CPST list, to be voted on in November. They are set by law, and cannot be changer, either to delete, add or change the priority of any given project. The projected amount of taxes to be collected in the seven year life of the tax is approximately $148M. The list was based on the amount estimated to be collected. If the tax passes, the county would issue bonds or otherwise borrow the omoney so that the projects could be constrycted immediately and coincidentally. In other words, the top project could be started and so could ten more.
If the tax runs out, the projects stop. If a new referendum is heald, to allow seven more years of taxes, then either the same or new projects would be started. But there is noneed for separate referendums (referenda?) on each project. The vote in BNovember is to approve both the tax and the list of projects as approved by County Council in an earlier vote.

Adieu, Nick, adieu

October 4, 2008 by dunebuggy

I guess everyone got the e-memo from Nick today about turning over the forum to four volunteer moderators. What he didn't mention is he is leaving AIM to work for Jesus at the NewSprings mega church over at the intersection of Hwy. 81 and Brown Rd. Good luck, Nick. To the volunteers, enjoy it while it lasts. The newspaper that sponsors this blog is staggering in circles, gasping for air, and casting off writers and reporters like a dog in a flea bath. Three more months and Liz Carey will be published by default.

Anyone want to check and see when the county bought the little outparcel that sits in the grassy area off the Kroger building parking lot on River Street? (You can check the county land maps and Assessor Data.) It was not part of the original Kroger building deal. Who authorized its purchase??? I don't believe it was brought up at any Council meetings.

-non-sequitur

non-sequitir, it has consistently been Mr. Preston's position that such transactions are within his purview as county administrator. the question is not whether Council was consulted, but where the money came from? For the last couple of years, we've been told that the budget has been cut to the bone, to the tissue, even as it swells by millions of dollars each year. So if we're into the tissue, and that is JRP's quote, where did this money come from? And who was the realtor?

You need somebody to keep you safe POO-bob Why don`t you try being a man, and protecting your own family.I raised three kids, who by the way turned out just fine, and never needed the help of any law enforcement office to do the job.I figured they had more important business, than to run interference for my family,I provided all the protection they required. And at no cost to the taxpayers.

-rino

OOOOH, would you please protect me, Mr. Rino? You're so big and brave. Well, one out of two isn't so bad. What a blowhard you are.  Now, SSHM, what is the dig about Honea Path????  I am from Honea Path, too, and I sure know the definition of the word reelection.  Are you trying to irritate those of us in what you appear to consider the hinterlands?  Because I assure you, we do know how to read, wear shoes, and have indoor plumbing.

-the-queen

Queen, Stupid does indeed have a real aversion to country folks. If he had his way, i think the city limit6s of Andetrson would be the county limits too. Plus, he just doesn't understand the people out in thehinterlands. They don't want to see Anderson County and its budget grow until they are convinced that the revenues generated by that growth aren't being stolen. So they keep sending Cindy back up there to keep an eye on that bunch of crooks.Like it or not, that's how those hicks see it, and Stupid just can't believe they can't outwit thopse yokels and get somebody else elected.

Re: Baseball fans

September 22, 2008 by dunebuggy

I know there are not many homegrown Yankee fans here and I'm talking baseball here. Today is a day that, I'm not sure should be happening. Today the last game in yankee stadium will be played. This is a sad day, considering howmany firsts were done there.

-noeline

Noeline, this might surprise a few folks, but I grew up as a Yankee fan. Back then, before two hundred sports cable shows, we got the game of the week on Saturdays, and we waited for it all week. Like the Redskins in football, the Yankess were the team we saw most often down here. The Mick, Yogi, Bobby Richardson, a good old SC boy BTW, Whitey Ford, all those guys! Reggie Jackson, Ron Guidry, Catfish Hunter, a NC boy BTW, Goose Gossage, man the list goes on. Boy, they were great. I too hate to see the old park torn down. A Lot of ghosts in that building, and the greatest sports enterprise in history. No one even comes close to the history and the glory of the Yankees. The pregame show was fantastic last night. Of course, once tghe Braves moved to Atlanta, I began to root for them too, but I still love the pinstripes.
