I just got back from eating a good meal after the Anderson County Republican Party meeting tonight. Boy, was it festive.

The party voted unanamously to Censure Mr. Raymond MacKay for voting in the Democratic Primary, giving money to no one but Democrats, then claiming to be a life long Republican.

Let's face it folks, he worked against good, hardworking Republicans, and now he wants to be one of us. Not this time Raymond. Go find your friends in the democratic party.

I am proud to be a Republican!

Lifelong. Your local party leadership is rotten. It is the next priority after getting Raymond Mackay elected to Council. The local Republican leadership will ultimately kill the local Republican party if sensible people don't regain some leadership positions. I mean when Charles Crowe, Dan Harvell and all the other nutdrivers can stack a vote to put a flip flopping chameleon like Bob Waldrep in the National Convention over a much more devoted and prominent SC Republican like Mary McAbee, something is out of whack. As their mantra that they shamelessly stole from James Carvell says, it's our party and we're going to "take it back". There's a reason why Bob has such high negatives that he can't even win a plurality in a three way race in which he is the incumbent. And it the same reason that he is the darling of the anti-everything morning radio crowd. He's a negative guy in a positive district. Sorry guys but we're not in District #7 anymore. Waldrep supporters want to keep progressive independent-minded thinkers like Raymond out of office because his presence will lessen their stranglehold on local Republican leadership. Bob had his chance to make a difference and he blew it. "It's time for a change."

I respectfully disagree with the censure.  I feel that at a Republican my first obligation is to reflect my conscience and my beliefs.  If that means that I truly feel that the person who is running is most closely allied to my Republican principles, I am honor bound to support that person.

My question is why are the Republicans trying to tear apart their own party. The guy may have voted in a democrat primary, that doesn't mean he will not support the Reublican candidate. Maybe he like many republicans was not happy with any of the candidates of the republican party. Maybe he was trying to insure that one particular democrate candidate did not win. This while line is just NUTS

GOOD MORNING ANDERSON REPUBLICANS! If you went to sleep last night thinking you were residing in the land of the free and home of the brave then think again. I woke up this morning to find out that the Anderson County Republican Party has turned into the Republican Party of Fascism. What were you people thinking? When was the last time any of you committee members read the Republican Creed? You have in one night totally denigrated everything the Republican Party stands for. I have been a lifelong Republican and today is probably one of the saddest days of my life. I, along with a multitude of others feel that the local Republican Party no longer truly represents the party members in this area. If you are going to censure Mr. Mackay for his one vote in the Democratic Primary then I guess you'll be coming after all of the rest of those of us who at one time or another may have crossed party lines. You can't censure one without censuring all. You have started a very scary process but to be fair you will now have to hunt us all down. This borders on voter intimidation, you do realize that, don't you? You can't dictate who or what party a person votes for. I think that is called a dictatorship and the last time I checked we weren't living under that type of government rule. If this is the kind of mentality that Bob Waldrep, Kevin Bryant and the Anderson County Republican Party Committee bring to the table then we need to do some house-cleaning and fast. This fiasco will cause many other like me to desert the Republican Party. Not only will we leave the party but we will do everything in our power to see that the above mentioned are not re-elected. You do not speak for nor do you have the support of the majority any longer. Kevin, you have cut your own throat by aligning yourself with Bob Waldrep and his group. I voted for you last time but will not again and I will work towards making sure you are not re-elected. Raymond MacKay has taken every punch you guys have thrown and is still standing tall. He's had every opportunity to turn negative and join in the mudslinging but has remained steadfastly honest and open throughout his whole campaign. Sad to say we can't say that for the other candidate. Republicans and Democrats alike have the opportunity next Tuesday, June 24th to take back our county. Please get out and vote!

Thank you womanwithabrain! That is a most eloquent and accurate assessment of current state of Anderson County politics. The radical fundamentalism and intimidation of candidates and voters must stop. This is America for God's sake, not the Ayatollah Ruholla Khomeini's 1979 Iran or Adolph Hitler's 1939 Nazi Germany. As a rule, Anderson County people are sensible and independent-minded conservative people. However, the radical conservatives that have hijacked the leadership of the local Republican Party are pushing more and more of us into the ranks of the Independents. Womanwithabrain is right. Today they are after Raymond. Tomorrow they might be after you. Stop the madness and bring our party back to us the people. We can send the party leadership and Bob Waldrep a much needed message next Tuesday by supporting a true Republican Raymond MacKay.

Yor are right. The grand old party needs more people like Mr. Mackay supporting Democrats not Republicans with his checkbook and votes but wait.....then it would be called the New Democratic Party or RINO Party. What am I thinking.

"A true Republican Raymond MacKay"??? Please.
While I do not agree with the censure of the Republican party issued at the meeting last night, I cannot follow your train of thought that Mr MacKay is a true Republican. He donates money to Democrats!!! I cannot overlook that fact and neither should you.
Regardless of how the information got to the public, it cannot be refuted. Mr MacKay has not denied it. He can't. Use some common sense here, folks. If he votes for them and supports them financially.... you can connect the dots (I hope).

Speaking of Conventions, Meetings, and such . . .

Are the local Republicans going to take action against "No-Show" Waldrep and "No-Show" Freemantle for missing the STATE Convention? After all, these two individuals were supposed to be our represenatives to the STATE Convention. We selected them - the failed in their duties to APPEAR (yes- they didn't show up).

So . . . if the Republican Party is handing out things, how about something recognizing the fact that Bob didn't show up to the STATE Convention and that his ability to represent at the NATIONAL Convention be pulled.

If you can't make the drive to Columbia, I have serious concerns about ones ability to hop a plane.

It seems to me, just watching this from afar, that if the local Republican Party thinks it has the authority to "censure" Raymond MacKay, that means he's a Republican. Doesn't it? What am I missing here? Didn't they just validate his claim to be a member of the GOP?

C'mon truepatriot . . .

O'Dell, Maddox, and Allen . . . are all now what . . . Republicans. Penalizing someone for having the foresight to see change . . . really.

I am sure they were doing what they should have been doing. CAMPAIGNING. McAbee would have been better served to campaign that weekend. Ending up with two losses is not a good thing.

I don't think the Republican Party is tearing up their own party. If MacKay had shown one ounce of Republican creditials, I doubt this would have been done.

I applaud the party and it's leadership. It shows they have the integrity to stand up for their beliefs. I can't remember the last time this happened. It should have been done to Chuck Allen 4 years ago, but it wasn't.

You cannot give money and vote in democratic primaries and expect to be welcomed with open arms.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You are showing your ignorance toward partisan politics.

Brother, this ain't your party. If you think it is ok to water down our conservative beliefs, then you need to switch parties. There are a bunch of them, please choose wisely.

Good point. He declared himself a democrat when he voted in the Democratic PPP. On the other hand, he declared himself a Republican when he voted in the primary last week. Assuming he voted for himself in the primary. That is not a far fetched assumption.

He has given money to democrats, which goes to work against Republicans. There is no evidence (that has been released by MacKay) that he has ever given a dime to Republicans. The evidence shows he gave $2,600.00 to democrats since 2000. That's a major no-no.

Here is what MacKay can do to fix this major problem for himself. 1st he can provide a sign-in sheet(s) showing that he voted in at least 1 republican primary. 2nd thing he can do, is provide financial disclosures that he has given at least a dollar to Republican candidates, local, state or Federal parties. Just $1.00 would at least show he supports or has supported Republicans.

Just my thoughts. He should be embarrassed that he has done nothing to help republican candidates, and now wants support from Republicans.

Just a thought, but perhaps if the State required people to register as either Rep or Dem it would eliminate the crossover voting and also eliminate the arguments over who is a Republican and who is a Democrat.

Check the dates of contributions... Maddox and Allen were Democrats when they received $$ from MacKay. (not sure about O'Dell). So it's ok to give $ to Dems if you think they might, sometime in the future, switch parties? Wow, that is some powerful mind reading and predicting. Perhaps you and MacKay ought to go into the stock market or weather predicting.
