I have said I thought R Wilson would come around. I have also said I do not see Floyd being able to do that. What is you you think I want for Anderson other than actual progress with some planning and common sense?
Is it possible a man I believe has some common sense actually thinks in a deep recession giving another holiday was fiscally prudent? Coming on the heels of the rape of the budget to pay off a threat, it was simply bad judgment. If this were your business and the financial future was unknown would you spend a penny more than you had to or plan for leaner times?

If that is vindictive I am all for it. If in all this it comes out that there was some misuse of our funds then that's the cost of transparency. I think that is what is most feared here. "Those Driver people" might actually have had some reason for what they believe and people like republikin would rather poke out her eyes and go deaf than find out she was not 100% correct.
From republikins post I have this vision of all Council members shuffling into the Administrators office and all repeating in unison a request, then shuffling out. You have never been in an administrative position for senior staff I take it? LOL You might be asked to find answers to multiple questions by different management members.
Let's see what their actions and demeanor are this year. I will be sadly disappointed if the tide is simply reversed and payback is the plan. From conversations with the three new Councilmen they have said that is not their intention. One way or the other, we will see.

I wish you were right 1-0pinion but I suspect kindness and gentle will not be the words used to describe the new council if the claims their backers have been making in the months leading up to their swearing in turn out to be true.

If you have met the three new Council members you will have at least the hope we are done with the rudeness and baiting on the dias that we have all suffered through. They appear to have spent the last 6 months getting ready to move forward.
Personally I would not like C Wilson as the new Chairman, she would suffer the rudeness politely from Floyd. I want a person that calls a halt to the unprofessionalism we have all witnessed and do so with finality.

Unions had a place when the "American worker" was being exploited and we needed child labot laws. Now, tell me what good they serve. You can go to college and get 40 thousand into debt and come out making 25 thousand a year or get a union job and get paid 38.00 an hour to put screws into a dashboard. Do you think that is working on the whole? Not for GM & Chrysler. If you support the unions, you support the bailout because the cost of labor and perks are all a huge part of the profit problem.
I like the American worker, I love America but at least where it is flawed I don't turn my head and forget to use logic to understand the makings of our problems. Sorry that makes you think I am not patriotic because that is an incorrect conclusion LOL
BTW sometimes when I post I get a blank screen. If I go back it posts twice. Now I just login a second time to aviod that problem.

The devaluation of the dollar may be a good thing. After all who in the world can afford to buy a shirt made in America that costs $40.00 when they can buy the same shirt made in Indonesia for $12.00. This difference is that the average American manufacturing employee makes $17.00 per hour vs maybe $2.00 and hour in Indonesia. In addition the American manufacturer must meet(and pay for) all EPA/OSHA requirements, workers comp., retirements, 401Ks, medical plans, state/Fed/local taxes, and probably some other things. These all add up to increase the cost of the manufactured product. The US may never again be able to compete in routine manufacturing with the rest of the world. Unless the value of the dollar drops significantly and the associated costs also drop.

Bust the unions, they have no reason to continue to exist. Those issues left the country long ago along with jobs.

This is a perfect time for the Council to amend ordinances that moved power to the Administrator, regain more control over the direction the county takes, assess where we are financially, what needs to be changed, how to make the government more efficient and how to cut costs.
Executive session allows the Council to discuss matters, votes have to be done out of executive session. JD is correct.
Re: Wake up
January 4, 2009 by 1-opinion
The system is as all systems are a bureaucracy but this term is tossed around as an excuse for failure far too often. The primary responsibility for success of children is the family. Until those popping out kids care about what happens to them after birth, no matter what we do there will be no real change. How about the welfare system? There is a broken bureaucracy. If the system allowed for the number of kids you have when you enter the program and said it will not increase payments if any other child is born while you are in the system, what would that do to reduce the costs for that agency?
How do people feel about military schools for at risk children? Yes, the burden would fall on the government but at least the environment can be controlled. Before anyone goes nuclear over this idea, it might cut down on the number of kids in DJJ and be cost effective. At risk kids would have to be identified earlier.
Another problem that straightup points out is that not all people are academicians. Our system tries to move all kids through one channel. An option is to identify those who will benefit from a trade education. The world will always need service oriented people, plumbers, electricians, landscaping, etc. Why not assess a child's capabilities and use their own abilities and/or limitations?
I am not disagreeing that the system needs to change at all. I am looking at the problem from the opposite direction of Virginia, bottom up.

1-0pinion, I agree with you as far as Floyd using her influence with Animal Control, but I also recognize that if the guy in front of me runs a red light, and I follow him and get pulled by a police officer, "He did it, too" isn't a legal defense. Okay, maybe it is in Wiliamston. I know. I've tried it. [image]
Here's your compromise position: The new Council approves a resolution calling for everybody to follow the law - specifically, both the letter AND the spirit of the S.C. Freedom of Information Law, and all laws dealing with the relationship between County Council, the County Administrator, and county employees. What could be easier?
-jdtippett
You think the Council should have to FOIA information on which they base decisions about the county finances and law suits? Lord man, talk about creating a bureaucratic impossibility for running a county. The Administrator works at the pleasure of the Council, if they ask for something as an employee it is his job to provide it.
If I am not mistaken, it was at Preston's "invitation" that C Wilson & Waldrep showed up at the finance department. Preston said (not quoting here) you can see anything you want. They took the press to show that he really didn't mean it. That's when Cunninham & Jones blocked the hallway and showed that his statement was not true. Until we FOIA the affidavits from all those wroged employees we do not really know how strong their complaints are do we?
As for being just as guilty as the next person, guilty would mean both people who ran the light OR all Council who interfered with county employees should have been included in the temporary injunction not just the one or two that were singled out for personal reasons. After the November 18th meeting this injunction should include, Greer, Wilson & Floyd by their own statements about directly contacting employees and instructing them. Floyd has been walking all over county employees for years and everyone knows it. One can not talk about uniform enforcement and this suit in the same paragraph while keeping a straight face. <G>
You have clearly demonstrated that this county will continue to be so dysfunctional that it cannot ever actually move forward. Let's all hope Greenville and other areas keep bringing in business, the employees will need somewhere to live if you keep you head out of the politics, Anderson is a pretty place to live. LOL

[Quote JD] "BUT EXCEPT IN CASES OF INVESTIGATIONS OR INQUIRIES, THEY ARE REQUIRED TO DEAL WITH EMPLOYEES ONLY THROUGH THE ADMINISTRATOR. And it doesn't matter if that administrator is Michael Cunningham or somebody of the new Council's choosing." [Quote]
Floyd should no longer be able to call Animal Control & Litter Officers directly and tell them where they need to go and what they need to do immediately and have them stop their list of work, There needs to be an injunction against her so she can no longer interfere.
Greer had no business instructing Gina Humphries to find 1.14 million that she could transfer to pay Preston off.
If you don't think that is a double standard we won't find middle ground. Greer clearly interrupted Humphries day by tasking her with that job and Floyd disrupts an entire department. Yikes
Laws and rules need to be fairly applied. LOL But this is Anderson right?

Looks like the Preston court win streak against MCW goes up another notch. Preston 14 - MCW 0 ! When will she learn? Even with her new legal pal at her side, she loses and loses. Wonder what Preston has on the courts? (Wink wink) Or, more likely, what does the court know that the Preston haters don't seem to get? Perhaps it is as simple as "right is right." The laws of our State are being upheld.
I'm really proud of Michael Cunningham for standing up to the bullies and intimidators. He's his own man!

You write how great the score is but you fail to address the cost. THINK about it. What good does this do? You want progress? 3,2 million of their tax payers money WILL be spent. The question is how. I have seen the building. It can accommodate more than they plan. It can also provide more services that will pay for themselves such as obedience classes, small shows. It can be done the question is what it the vision of those making decissions? Many have suggested that there be a formal committee to discuss these matters and make recomendations to the Council for changes. We will see how that is received. You can't ever guess what will happen unless you write the final script here. LOL

So for the price of a 50 cal. round we turn the tribal leaders into snitches for a "ah hem". Some felt this was insulting to the Muslims of the world. I would venture to guess that men are men and would appreciate a medical solution to an old age problem or if you prefer, an age old problem. <g> Traitors have given up information for less. It creates good relations with the tribal leaders, they get their respect and better control of the tribe being found to be viral men. (Only women will object to that logic.)
Mostly the tactic is simple, brilliant, inexpensive, and non-violent. Brings back the 60's slogan, "make love not war". LOL

War records, this was the most easy readable history I found. (BTW, not the first piece I read <g>) I can't say I agree with all the sentiments attached as this author is obviously slanted to the right but the time lines are correct and I didn't want to find a statistics chart no one would look at for war history.
I enjoy reading because while I have lived much of this, my perspective and age allow for an opinion not necessarily based on history, facts and figures. Having just turned 50, you my friend are right there too. LOL
Abraham Lincoln a Republican President freed the Black Slaves of America along with the rest of the Republicans that fought for the North. The Democrats were for continuing the blacks as slaves even the Democrats that lived in the Northern states. It was the Confederacy that susceeded from the Union and started the Civil War when Lincoln won the election because they knew Lincoln would push Congress to abolish Slavery in the USA. Lincoln was the first Republican President. The Republicans have always been against slavery and for human rights for all races and still are.
Theodore Roosevelt a Republican bought the Panama Canal zone from the French and built the Panama Canal. Teddy also started the National Park system of the USA and the first National Park in the whole world, was Yellow Stone National Park. Teddy gave Yellow Stone Park to all citizens of the USA. Now many countries all over the world have started National Parks. Republicans were the first party for the environment starting with Teddy. Teddy also delivered the "Square Deal and regulation of industry". Which helped the working classes. BTW it was crazy and stupid Jimmy Carter a Democrat President that gave away the Panama Canal zone for nothing.
Thomas Woodrow Wilson a Democrat President led America into WWI. Warren G. Harding a Republican President led us from WWI into "nomalcy". President Harding led the country away from Wilson's socialistic views and returned it to the Capitalistic systems and freedom we all love, with the greatest landslide Presidential election victory in USA history.
Franklin D. Roosevelt a Democrat President led the USA into WWII. Dwight D. Eisenhower a Republican President as General and Commander of all the Armed forces of the USA led the USA to victory over Germany and Japan so America could keep the freedom we now have. Roosevelt died before WWII ended but Eisenhower won the war anyways.
Harry S. Truman a Democrat President was vice-President under FDR and took over the Presidency when FDR died in office. Truman gave away most of Eastern Europe to Russia at the end of WWII. The USA won the war but Truman was too soft and inexperienced (sounds like Obama doesn't it, that's what happens facing Communist countries like Russia with soft Presidents), so Truman faced an international crisis at the end of WWII, he couldn't handle it and he lost most of Eastern Europe to Russia in negotiations, which started the cold war with Russia. Then just a few years later Truman led the USA into the Korean War. "The war remained a frustrating stalemate for two years, with over 30,000 Americans killed, until a peace agreement restored borders and ended the conflict.[127] In the interim, the difficulties in Korea and the popular outcry against Truman's sacking of MacArthur helped to make the president so unpopular that Democrats started turning to other candidates." wikipedia.org
Lyndon B. Johnson a Democrat President led the USA into the Vietnam War. Richard Nixon a Republican President led the USA out of Vietnam and ended the Draft. Nixon also opened the doors to trading with China.
Reagan and George Bush both Republican Presidents won the cold war against Russia and freed Eastern Europe, that truman gave away to Russia, without firing a shot. They built the "big stick" which included the Military Machine we have today including the Stealth Bombers and fighters, again so we Americans can all be free instead of bowing to a Communist Dictator like Castro or Stalin. Reagan and George Bush also improved the economy to great and new heigths that was totally destroyed under Jimmy Carter's, a Democrat President, with Carter's extremely high taxes and the running of the printing presses that caused run away inflation. (This is why many see Barack Hussein Obama as another Jimmy Carter, it has already been tried in the USA and failed miserably. This is not change nor nothing new. It is just a return to the failed policies of Jimmy Carter)
George Bush also won the Gulf war against Iraq and Sadam Hussein. Freeing Kuwait. But did not enter Iraq.
George W. Bush a Republican President has won the war over Sadam Hussein, toppled his radical dictatorship, stopped the terrorism that Sadam's Regime trained and financed with Al Queda in Iraq. George W Bush has won that war with the "Surge" and has placed a new Iraq Democracy in the Middle East with hopes to grow that democracy in other countries, thereby ending the Radical Muslim strongholds of Al Queda and others, and bring freedom to the good Muslims that live there. The Economy was great under George W Bush for his first six years with only 6% unemployed (BTW it's only about 6% unemployed even now amongst all this market melt down), but then the Democrats took over Congress and the Senate the last two years, and the economy has gone into the tank under the Democrats leadership with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Ried along with Barny Frank that have destroyed it. The market melt down all started with subprime loans that Obama and Acorn and Bill Clinton all democrats thought were a good idea. So Bill Clinton, a Democrat President deregulated the banking system so they would make loans to people who couldn't qualify nor pay the payments. And Obama with Acorn pressured those banks to make those subprime loans that caused this market melt down.
In summary: Did you noticed that it was the Democrats: Wilson that led us into WWI, FDR that led us into WWII, Truman that led us into the Korean War, and LBJ that led us into Vietnam, and all those wars were fought with huge losses of drafted American Soldiers lives. It was the Republicans that led us out of and won the wars the Democrats put us into and also ended the draft. The two Bushes won both of their wars with almost no human losses in comparison.
I would add let's all not forget things that failed, like the bay of pigs & funding Castro as a "freedom fighter". Yes there are others like that we can pull out. Perhaps what you are saying is the problem with politics are politicians?
Wyatt chimed in, anyone else care to take a stab at a fair an balanced answer?
PS I just noticed that the ad on this page is "GWB IQ is 125, are you smarter than GWB?" Well as he was a lousy "C" student I would suggest it isn't IQ, it's ability, can we get an entrance exam for all candidates? ROTFL
Who are these people, how did we get here and who is to blame?
December 21, 2008 by 1-opinion
I was asked what makes a Democrat and what makes a Republican? This young person also asked who is to blame for our current situation. Of course before answering I went on line and began to research this question so my answer would be less biased.
I found some interesting stuff. The following links give the 2004 party goals and then the 2008 candidates/party goals.
Democrats
http://ontheissues.org/Dem_Platform_2004...
Republicans
http://ontheissues.org/2004_GOP_Platform...
For 2008 this was one of the more informative web sites on issues and party core values. The following is not in list format but you can click on a topic and get the party lines.
Democratshttp://ontheissues.org/Dem_Platform_2004...Republicanshttp://ontheissues.org/2004_GOP_Platform...
I also looked at historic gains and losses in mid-term elections (Bush really killed his party in 2006 LOL)
http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/data/mid-term_elections.php
These are the stats for 2008 (I copied and pasted obviously but lost the web page to site)
The blame issue became more balanced as I began wading through various votes over the past 16.
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/who_caused_the_economic_crisis.html
For fun I thought I would share, without a conclusion least I be accused of finding an article that supported my view. <g>
So here is the question; What is the difference in the parties, how did we get here and who is to blame?
And the challenge; (yes I am being pompous), without name calling, making derogatory comments about one person or another (SSHM & Wyatt and of course Sweet pea and me) and without being rude, crude and socially unacceptable, I would enjoy reading the input, evaluations and relevant articles people use to support their theory or view.
Anyone game? The person who asked is in college and a first time voter confused by the two party system and the policies and economic behind this latest debacle.

You b*tched about Dave Crenshaw, he too is gone. You b*tch bout the council, you replaced them and STILL whine like a stuck mule in a mudhole. Yes rude. I would quote you from Hankey's blog but I would then be off the blog for a week of penance from JD. Sometime you have to speak to people on their level to insure they get the point like you and SSHM and it works, look at your response, a diatribe, filled with anger and insults. LOL You make my case.
I think JD just agreed partially with the piece I quoted on the life cycle of a "democracy" some time back.
It is no secret I find Floyd to be incompetent but she is a moot point after the 30th. R Wilson lost his integrity when he made a few false statements and pushed the buyout. He will do a slow 180 and try to save himself in 2010 from the buyout fallout. As for Cunningham, he has yet to prove himself but I do object to the manner by which he got the position of Administrator and that Preston dictated the same contract terms to McNair/Martin that allow the fab five to buy him out at the mere mention of a possible suit.
Sorry for the double post it sent before I finished. I was looking something up LOL

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made this statement on President Bush’s plan to offer $17.4 billion to General Motors and Chrysler.
Graham said:“I’m disappointed with President Bush’s decision in many respects.“I do not believe it’s appropriate to use the TARP (Troubled Asset Recovery Program) funds to bail out the automotive companies. These funds were supposed to be used to stabilize financial institutions. The TARP legislation would certainly not have passed it we had known it was going to be used for this purpose.“The plan announced by the President today will not lead to the necessary reforms which will make these companies profitable. The only viable solution is for them to enter Chapter 11 reorganization.“There the companies would be able to renegotiate their labor and health costs to make them competitive in the global marketplace. It would also allow the reorganization to be accomplished without political considerations. Presidential or congressional restructuring will end up being a political exercise more so than a business exercise to make these companies profitable.“If we continue down this road, I expect this will be the first of many government payments to the Big 3 automotive companies.”-jdtippett

I know it's hard for you to understand that CPA's follow international guidelines as well as GAAP and national and have an expanded knowledge beyond yours and mine. Fact of the matter is - a forensic audit is the same all the way around the world CPA's. D'oh.
Checkmate. Don't hate the player, hate the game LOL
Also, the audit as poorly defined as out esteemed Council of five voted, does not bind the in coming Council, they can use that as a guideline and refine the audit.
My skills aren't so weak; you aren't able to come up with a document that shows the article I chose is incorrect at any levle, you just hate the research.

Is anyone surprised that 1-O would scour the web to find something, anything to support his pre-determined conculsions and ignore anything that doesn't?
-sweet-p
No need to scour when all you have to do is google the words "forensic audit" and volia! What do you base your opinions on, your opinions or do you research anything? You don't like the article find one that refutes what the one I found said. LOL
No, 1-Opinion is certainly determined and vindictive. Sadly, I think he (she?) is correct about the possibility of doing a limited audit of so-called "problem" areas.

The Council waived their right to pursue Preston with any finding from an audit. Given that fact, how would an audit be vindictive?

Oh I did read your lengthy cut-and-paste diatribe. That would be until I decided to dig into what you posted:
ASOSAI? Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions. Now while you may not be the most geographically savy individual or simply a product of Kevin Bryant's "school choice" program, Asia is NOT North America. Asia is NOT the United States. Asia is most DEFINITLY not Anderson, SC ...
... but (Asia) was one of the better rock bands of the early 1980s. Maybe in the "Heat of the Moment," you missed this geographic point?
I was hoping that you might find something relative to the UNITED STATES? Maybe even the REGION for WHICH WE LIVE IN?? I'm glad you're learning to cite sources. Now if we could just work on that thing ... what is it called ... oh yes ... RELEVANCE!
- SSHM-sshm
Leave it to SSHM and his perfect call sign to miss the relevance, how revealing. LOL Suggesting that INTOSAI Auditing Standards have no relevance in Anderson, SC is a perfect example of the small mind stuck in self imposed ignorance.
So in your world American CPA's can't audit international companies doing business here? Do they have to send out to their home country to have an audit done? I guess having international standards for auditing would be too difficult a concept for you to grasp. ROTFLMAO
Diatribe? Do you know what that means? Bravo for being able to click on the link I provided and read the source. Relevance? I hope you have a constant supply of oxycodone.
